Homemade Pop-up Truck camper
Selling our beloved truck and camper. $7,250 CAD. 327,XXXkm.
Details below.
The Truck - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Automatic 2002 Toyota Tundra (327,XXXkm) with one of a kind camper built in 2020 and remodelled in 2021. We will NOT be accepting any lower offers for just the truck. The truck has been taken very good care of and we would not be selling it if the US land border had opened up, so she’s ready to go! See below for more about maintenance.
The air conditioner and heater are in great condition. Radio and cassette player still work. There is an aux adapter included for the cassette player. The leather seats are in great condition for the age, however, the stitching has come apart in areas of the drivers seat. Seat covers are included. The truck currently has winter tires on with a spare tire on rim located underneath.
We have done a lot of rust work to the car (right to the sheet metal), in particular on the roof and tray bed. As you’d expect for a 19 year old Toyota, there is rust underneath. It has unfortunately seized up the ebrake and is not functional right now.
Maintenance

We have kept all records of work done to the truck since owning it, in addition to some records from the previous (and only other) owner. Recently some wiring was redone and a wheel rotation and alignment was completed. We have also personally done work on the truck including:
-
Regular oil and filter (oil, air and fuel) changes. Last oil change @322,490 kms (used premium high milage oil).
-
@321,490 kms — Replace rear struts
-
@321,422 kms — Replaced exhaust gaskets
-
@321,422 kms — Replaced crankshaft sensor
-
@317,929 kms - Replaced spark plugs and cleaned throttle body
-
@316,652 kms — Replaced front strut/spring assemblies and sway bar links
-
May 30, 2020 @31X,XXX kms — Replaced fuel pump (forgot to take down exact odometer on date).
Additionally, we have regularly put fuel injector cleaners, and catalytic converter cleaners through the system to keep everything running smooth. On recent road trips this summer the truck has been averaging 14-16L/100km with a full loaded cab and camper.
The Pop-up Camper

Please note - The camper is bolted onto the tray rails and the inside structure is simply resting on the bed. So could you take it off? Yes - but it is NOT intended to do so! This was done to reduce overall weight!
The camper is of minimalist nature, with the outdoors in mind. We only recommend it for 3 seasons, but we have braved it down to -19°C, although condensation becomes an issue at those chilly temps! Insulation is only under the bed (overhanging the cab) as we opted for maximum storage given the size of the camper.
The pop up features a VW T5/6 hinge with an assisted gas strut lift. Pop-up time takes about 1-2 minutes (latches, lift and supports) and pack down time is roughly 3-5 minutes as we neaten the vinyl after the roof is lowered. 6 rubber latches keep the roof locked in when lowered, while the hinge will also only rise with force pushing up from the back of the truck.
What’s inside the camper?
-
Popped-up the camper provides comfortable standing room at 5’11” with a few extra inches room at its highest point.
-
The day bed converts into a ‘diner’, with the middle section changing to a table.
-
The ‘kitchen’ is equipped with a sink that drains to a basic waste bucket, so the bears won’t smell your toothpaste. We place a 10L water container above the sink as our tap/water source.
-
The cupboards, draws and shelves provide a great amount of storage, along with our famous spice racks for easy access whilst cooking on the tailgate.
-
The two side windows both open with fly screens, while the middle camper window opens up in line with the rear truck window (both can only be opened from inside truck).
-
LED lights which run off AA batteries and have a remote control. There is NO battery or solar system.
Extras

We are selling the truck and camper with a number of extras (some not in the photo above), including:
-
Adjustable breaker bar kit
-
An array of gear for the camper e.g. water containers, cooking ware, utensils, backcountry stools.
